Charateristics
Called the “Marvellous Wine”, it was a fine wine drunk by the patrician families of ancient Rome. The recipe for it is in a cookbook written by Marco Gavio Apicio, the first gourmet in history, who lived sometime between the 1st and 2nd century AD.
The preparation is very complex and calls for cooking the wine with typical spices and aromas of the time such as cinnamon, dates and saffron.
